A professional trustee is an individual or company which is remunerated to sit on a pension scheme’s trustee board to act either solely or as an addition to the trustee board. Usually the professional trustee will bring a great wealth of professional knowledge and experience to the table and provide a level of expertise which other trustees – if there are any, of course – may not possess. However, appointing such a professional will not lessen any of the risk associated with the trustee role or absolve fellow trustees of their duties and responsibilities.
